Story
At a time when everyone should be staying safe at home, there are sadly thousands of women, men and children who are living at home in fear.
National figures show there has been a surge in violence since the UK lockdown began, with a rise in killings and the number of calls to the National Domestic Abuse Helpline up by 49% in three weeks.
In the West Midlands alone there were 400 arrests for domestic violence in a 2 week period.
We’re a group of colleagues from Wesleyan who want to play a small part in helping women and children affected by domestic abuse - at a time when they need our support more than ever.
We will be using our daily outside exercise to walk or run at least 400km during the next 3 weeks of lockdown to raise money for Refuge.
We’re really grateful for any support you can give, however big or small!
Thank you,
Pippa, David, Lucie, Jenny, Kira, Sarah C, Sarah P, Sammy, Gemma, Becky, Bernadette, Jess, Nic, Waseem, Kelly, Mandy, Nathan, Melissa, Simon.
Refuge’s story:
One woman in four will experience domestic violence at some point in her lifetime and two women are killed each week in England and Wales by a current or former partner.
Refuge supports around 6,000 women & children on any given day, experiencing domestic and sexual violence, female genital mutilation, forced marriage, stalking, trafficking, prostitution & so-called ‘honour’ based violence.
By kindly sponsoring us today you are helping to save and change the lives of thousands of women and children escaping domestic violence.
