Story

For those of you who didn't know, back in December 2018 my mother, Joy, passed away from cancer. She did a lot of good for other people, so would be glad that this charity will get some money in order to help others.

In 2019 there wasn't enough time to train and organise this, and then in late 2019 I was involved in a motorcycle crash which left me unable to do this through 2020 and 2021.

In the crash I ended up with 6 breaks in my right foot and a very complicated 12 break blowout in my right pelvis. Thankfully they managed to operate on my pelvis straight away to rebuild the joint, which was amazing and gives me great gratitude for the NHS, of course along with the treatment they gave my Mum.

One of the largest motivators to my recovery was the thought of getting back on a bike and being able to ride a long distance to raise money for a good cause - it's just a shame that I've promised not to use the motorised variety!

With all this in mind I thought why not try and get well enough to cycle 188 miles in a day, along with some friends, from south to north of one of the flattest countries I know, Wales. My injuries are still present, and I'm very much still trying to improve my body in order to achieve this goal, along with specialists who are providing treatment along the way.

This is an important cause and any pain encountered is absolutely justified, as the money raised will help others.

We're aiming to travel down on Friday the 24th of June, stay over and then get pedalling first thing on the 25th, for 10 - 18 hours of Pain :-). Thankfully we will have a back up driver to help with fuelling and any problems along the way - thanks Huw!

Please donate, any amount you can, we will all be very grateful.

Sharing this page any way you can will really help raise money, so please do.

Thanks

Will

Bladder cancer is not a rare cancer - it is of the ten most common cancers in the UK - that's 4% of all new cases. Over 20,000 people are diagnosed each year, and many of those will die. Despite this, there is very limited public awareness of the disease and it is a low priority on the public health agenda. Treatments have changed very little over the past 30 years and research is seriously underfunded. Bladder cancer has been called a 'Cinderella' cancer. ABC UK is dedicated to changing this and to giving bladder cancer patients a voice.

About the charity

We are a national charity established in 2009 - led by patients and bladder cancer experts (clinicians, nurses, researchers) working together to raise awareness of bladder cancer, improve outcomes for patients, improve and fund research and improve patient support.
