Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My name is Will and in 2021 I will be running the Manchester Marathon for The Space Centre. The Space Centre is a wonderful institution based in Ashton, Preston, next to the docks, that offers sensory environments for people with special or additional needs including physical, learning and emotional difficulties.
They have 3 rooms and a garden, consisting of the largest multi-sensory environment in the UK, and clearly make a difference to many lives. When I first signed up for the marathon and announced what I was doing, a dear family friend got in touch to say what the Space Centre meant to her, and her Daughter when she was younger. I wasn’t aware of this additional personal connection before hand but it gives me another reason to run, and motivates me towards that finish line.
Space is open to all groups and is available for booking by individuals and groups. In fact that’s how we discovered them, by attending a baby/toddler class there in 2019, with my daughter.
As a runner I have run intermittently the last 6 or 7 years. As a teenager I was a keen rugby player and played on the wing. In school I ran the 100m, 200m, 4x100m relay and bizarrely the 1500m, however it wasn’t until after Uni I found a taste for long distancing trail running. I have never run an organised long distance race. The furthest I have previously run was 18 miles in 2017. Even though I’m having to train on the road instead of the countryside, it’s a pleasure to have something to train for, a joy to be running for such a good cause and especially humbling to be able to represent them at the Manchester Marathon.
