Story

When I was participating in the Midsummer Night Marathon in Tromso, Norway a few years ago, I met Salah Ameidan, a Sahrawi long distance runner who had been recruited for the Moroccan running team at the age of 12. At the age of 22 he raised the Sahrawi flag above his head during the last few hundred metres of a race in France. Immediately after that he sought political asylum in France, as this action would likely have led to imprisonment in Morocco.

In 2013 a film, calledThe Runner, was released about him. After I had seen and was told about the Sahara Marathon, I realised that running whenever and wherever I want, means ultimate freedom for me. I hope that by running the Sahara I can live that freedom and help others find theirs.
