We run national awareness campaigns to educate and create awareness of melanoma

Story

Through this challenge we aim is to raise funds with Matt's Fund for Melanoma research & awareness.

Following his demob in 1953 David Kitching’s father, Terry, then in his mid-twenties was hungry for some adventure and wanted to explore Europe. As a Scouter and member of a mountain rescue team he was well prepared to be self sufficient.  Not having a car he set off from Wombwell, South Yorkshire, on his bike.  Of course it bore little resemblance to todays light alloy framed super duper road bikes especially when packed with all his belongings.  His destination was the International Scout Camp at Kandersteg in Switzerland.

During the New Year Celebrations whilst seeing in 2015 David and Jill made the resolution to follow in his bike tracks this year!  It may have seemed a rash decision but all the planning has now come together and on 28th May they will set off from Wombwell and travel via Lincoln, Spalding and Ely to Harwich where they will catch the ferry to the Hook of Holland.  Using only  pedal power they too will travel via Amsterdam, Brussels, Luxembourg, Strasbourg and Zurich to Kandersteg in Switzerland planning to arrive by the 10th June, having biked over 950 miles.

As if the trip itself isn’t a positive enough statement they want to raise funds for a good cause.

Jill is Godmother to Daniel who lost his brother, Matthew, to Malignant Melanoma; the most serious form of Skin Cancer.   Matt was only 24 at the time and Matt’s Fund was formed with the intention of raising awareness and funding research into Malignant Melanoma. (www.facebook.com/matts-fund)

Wish them well on this journey of discovery, you can show your support to them and Matt's Fund  by donating to their Justgiving page. Funds raised will be directed to the Myfanwy Townsend Melanoma Research Fund to support the fantastic work they are doing to raise awareness of Skin Cancer in schools and sports groups.
