On Monday 22nd June, Phil Walker and Andy North will be embarking on a marathon 4 rounds of golf in a day to raise funds for Ashgate Hospicecare, as part of Handelsbanken Chesterfield’s pledge to raise £5,000 over 2 years towards the £1 million Urgent Bed Appeal.

Ashgate Hospicecare cares for over 2,000 patients each year across North Derbyshire. All the hospice’s services are provided free of charge to their patients, which means it needs to raise £6m of its £8.5m operating costs from donations and legacies. However, for several years, Ashgate Hospicecare has only been able to make 17 beds available, although it has the capacity to operate 21 beds.

The £1m Urgent Bed Appeal aim is to keep the extra 4 beds open, which will enable Ashgate Hospicecare to provide their fantastic services to even more local people.

For non golfers, the enormity of this challenge might be lost. To most golfers, the thought of playing more than one round in a day would send them to seek solace in the 19th! The 4 rounds that Phil and Andy will complete will include walking around 20 miles, playing 72 holes, swinging the club well over 300 times…..and probably looking for an untold amount of balls from wayward shots!

Estimated to take around 15 hours, Phil and Andy will be joined throughout the day by customers and business contacts who will be motivating and encouraging them….and helping them look for lost balls!

Chesterfield Golf Club have very kindly and generously agreed to host the challenge over the day, which is really appreciated by Phil and Andy.
