Story

In 2001 I lost my Dad and in 2015 I lost my mum both to different forms of cancer. During the latter stages of their illness both were admitted to hospices, my dad went to Mount Edgcumbe in St Austell and my mum to St Julia’s in Hayle. The care given to both my parents was extraordinary. The nurses and carers are second to none and show amazing empathy, sympathy and thoughtfulness, not only to the sick, but to the families as well.

In June, July and August I am undertaking a triple challenge to raise money for Cornwall Hospice Care. The first will be done in Jersey on Saturday June 22ndwhen I will attempt to walk around the perimeter of the island which is circa 48 miles. This will be undertaken in one day with a 3am start. This is very much an “unknown to me” but I am hoping that my desire to raise money for this charity will drive me on.

The second challenge is to undertake "The Saints Way Walk" which is a 29 mile "Coast to Coast" walk starting in Padstow on the North Coast and finishing in Fowey on the South Coast. The plan is to undertake this walk on Wednesday 10th July.

The third will be with my Chopper Stanking mates whom I did the South and North Cornish Coast Path challenges back in 2016 and 2017. This particular challenge will involve us walking from Padstow to Lands End (78 miles) in 3 days thats a marathon a day. This will take place on Friday 23rd, Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th August 2019.

It would be great for people to join us on this challenge and walk with us. The actual stages are:

Day 1 - Padstow (North of Constantine Bay) to Crantock (AM) Crantock to Perranporth Car Park (PM)

Day 2 - Perranporth Car Park to Godrevy Cafe (AM) Godrevy Cafe - Lelant St Uny Church (PM)

Day 3 - Lelant (St Uny Church) to Pendeen Lighthouse AM | Pendeen Lighthouse to Lands End PM

You will note my challenge is called the Hellfire “Hatrick” challenge, the Hellfire bit relates to Redruth RFC and the famous “Hellfire Corner” where both my mum and dad gave many hours voluntarily (my Dad being the President) and where I played and managed rugby all my life! The Hatrick refers to the 3 events!

All donations would be gratefully received and your company on any stage of any walk would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks
