We need to improve our farm buildings to have more landcraft training places

Story

Wednesdays at Garvald Home Farm are "wood days", when we saw and split wood for the farm boiler and also firewood for sale (see www.garvaldhomefarm.co.uk/firewood). Henry's challenge is to split 360 logs before Christmas -- one for every month since the foundation of Garvald Home Farm 30 years ago. He will be using both the hydraulic splitter on the tractor and a traditional hand axe. What will you give to spur him on?Your donations will encourage us all to keep the logs moving, and we will be counting... Check back to this page to see how Henry is shaping up.

Garvald Home Farm is a small community of people, some with a learning disability, living and working together on our organic farm. The Farm is run following biodynamic principles and our produce of meat, milk, vegetables, eggs and wool are certified by the Biodynamic Agriculture Association (BDAA) to organic and Demeter standard. For 30 years work on the farm has provided a variety of meaningful activities and learning opportunities which we hope to expand, offering training and work experience to the wider community. To make our farmyard a safer and more people friendly space to work with large stock and manoeuvre machinery, we plan to divert a road and replace the dilapidated Dutch barn with one set further back. Another shed will be doubled in size providing better shelter for more stock. In the historic farm steading the existing dairy and meat processing facilities will be upgraded, allowing Garvald Home Farm to produce and sell an expanded range of produce to local markets and provide more learning and employment opportunities. We also need to improve the style and capacity of the accommodation. One wing of the farmhouse is due for refurbishment to provide more comfortable and up to date facilities for staff and residents. We propose to address the historic shortage of space for residents by constructing two Scandinavian-style log cabins in the Garden grounds. Garvald Home Farm is looking at an exciting future and we hope very much that you want to be part of it.
