Story
Ian Reynolds' life will be honoured at a memorial service at St John the Baptist church Wimbledon on the 11th December. Ian, who died after a relatively short illness, had been a trustee of the Family Holiday Association for many years and had only recently stepped down as chair, a post he’d held since 2006.
The family of Ian Reynolds has released details of a memorial service in his honour. It will take place on Wednesday 11 December at 12 noon at St John the Baptist Church, Spencer Hill, Wimbledon, London SW19 4NZ. The service will be followed by a reception at Royal Wimbledon Golf Club, 29 Camp Road, Wimbledon, London SW19 4UW. For those coming by public transport, the church is a 10-minute walk from Wimbledon Station and the Golf Club is a further 20-minute walk from there.
Ian Reynolds "a kind and gentle man"
The charity owes Ian a great debt, not only for his time and wisdom but also his kindness and sense of fairness. He steadily guided us and helped raise our profile especially among the travel industry.
Ian had been a director of IBM before becoming Chief Executive of ABTA, a post he held for eleven years. When he retired from ABTA he played a most fulfilling role as the chair of trustees of his local NHS Trust and was also non-executive chairman at Citybond.
Ian had a very keen sense of humour and the frequent twinkle in his eye helped lighten the tone of many trustee meetings. We particularly enjoyed hearing his tales of life as a young Redcoat at Butlins in Pwllheli.
One of his last acts as chair was quietly and without any publicity to donate funds to buy a caravan at the same site, now the Haven Holiday Park Hafan Y Mor.
Our sadness at Ian's untimely death is softened by having benefited from the calm, professional leadership of a kind and gentle man.
Our condolences go to his wife Gill and his two daughters Christina and Frances.
A private funeral for Ian, who died earlier this month, took place on Wednesday 23 October.
