Story
I am running my FIRST EVER marathon in aid of the National
Association for People Abused in Childhood. Did you know that an estimated 1 in 5 adults have experienced some form of abuse in childhood? Children often do not have the chance or ability to come to terms with such traumatic experiences, and these memories can cause continuing harm as they grow into adulthood. NAPAC provides support, therapy and resources for survivors – to help them not only survive, but thrive, become confident and lead fulfilling lives. NAPAC is also an important source of advice and training for both supporters and professionals such as therapists.
I was inspired to run for this charity after undergoing coming to terms with my own past experiences in being emotionally and sexually groomed by a teacher when I was a student at Hitchin Girls' School - which you can read more about here.
It took me seven long years to realise, accept and understand what happened, and charities like NAPAC and the resources that they provided were an integral part of my recovery. I am really looking forward to giving something back to an organisation which not only has helped me, but also provides vital support to so many others who have suffered abuse yet never had the chance to come to terms with it. I once lived in shame and denial, now I am free.
Having never run further than a half-marathon, I am slightly petrified about running a whole 26 miles with nothing but my little legs to carry me. So please donate generously to spur me on in my final month of training!
Thanks very much xxx
