About our brave boy Jack...

Our son Jack McNaughton, age 6 of Perth, Scotland, was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy at the age of 20 months.  He WAS destined to life in a wheelchair. He is a determined, funny, happy little red head who has an amazing outlook on life especially at such a young age. For the first 3 years of his life, he endured pain on a daily basis.  His only way of getting around was commando crawling or being carried.

In March 2010, we discovered a possible 'cure' for his condition. This was life changing surgery called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy which was only available in St Louis Children's Hospital in Missouri, USA. This surgery came with 20 years’ experience and 100% success rate.

Jack underwent his massive operation/journey in November 2010 with Dr Park to remove the spasticity and pain that was caused by his condition, and now he lives an incomparable life than before.  The prognosis from his surgeon in the USA was that Jack will walk unaided, in time.

After almost three years of hard work, vigorous training, multiple therapies and treatment centres we can really see this as being an option for Jack, and he is so close…  Recently he stood unaided for 7 seconds!!!  His attitude to life is truly incredible!  He started off in using a walker, now he can walk in crutches, and is close to walking on his own, but something is holding him back, his feet….

After close examination with Dr’s in the United States, at the same hospital in St Louis, it has been identified that Jack will require further surgery on his feet. Dr Dobb’s, Orthopaedic Surgeon said that Jack's heel cords are definitely tight which has contributed to his flatfoot appearance.  The minimally invasive approach to tendon lengthening surgery would help his range of motion and help prevent further flattening of his feet and rolling of his ankles.  You should expect a heel to toe gait pattern with better balance and improved endurance and a decreased risk of flatfoot progressionThis ultimately removing the barrier which is holding Jack back from his achieving his dream to walk at present.

Now more than ever, we as parents, and Jack as individual know that getting back to America is more important than ever before his feet become worse - we are so excited for his future and would love your help to take him back to GET HIS FEET FIXED in November 2014.

This surgery, physician fees, hospital fees, aftercare, travel requirements, casting and orthotics and medical insurance is £25,000 (dependent on exchange rates) We hope that you find it in your heart to help Jack.  With the public’s amazing generosity Jack got his legs fixed, now we hope that once again you help us complete his puzzle and help him to get his feet fixed!
