In January 2013 something happened to me that would change my life forever.

At around 1pm on the 25th Jan, during a visit to my daughters school where I was to talk to the children about history I had a heart attack. I realised what was happening and left the classroom not before I looked my 10 yr old daughter in the eyes and told her I loved her. I collapsed outside the classroom door in severe pain and fell unconcious. I was convinced there was a chance I may not make it. Lucky for me I received great treatment from the NHS and had a stent put in one of my arteries within 2hrs.

Research into treatment and prevention of heart disease that is carried out by the British Heart Foundation helps doctors find the best ways to treat people like me. Without the latest techniques and information I might not be here today or my recovery may not have been so good. I am thankful to so many people and organisations for giving me an opportunity to look into my wife and childrens eyes everyday since the heart attack and tell them how much I love them.

For part of my recovery, to strengthen my heart I am cycling/training for the Prudential RideLondon 100 event in August 2014. I see it as a chance to raise money for people and familes who are affected by heart disease.

By giving £2 it will help 10 children get more phisically fit. For £30 will provide teachers with a pack to teach children what to do in a life threatening emergency. Lab works cost lots of money. An assay kit which measures the level of a specific factor in a series of samples cost £50. For every £200 we raise we will fund one scientist for a day to work on projects to diagnose, prevent and treat heart disease.

I am really motivated to do this ride and raise as much money as possible. So we can help as many people possible.
