Story
We're joining Cancer Research UK's Race for Life this year. Please join the fight by digging deep and sponsoring us - it's quick, easy and totally secure.
Events like this are vital in funding Cancer Research UK's life-saving work into preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer. By sponsoring us, we can unite and create an army that cancer can't ignore. By sponsoring us, we will beat cancer sooner.
Jen's story
The Race for Life is one of those things that I have been meaning to do for a few years, but never got myself sorted out to do it. This might surprise you, but I've always seen myself as being built more for comfort than speed. And so I never did get round to signing up.
What makes this year different is my mum's diagnosis last month with terminal stage 4 ovarian cancer. More often than not, this particular cancer is only picked up at an advanced stage. More research, more clinical trials, more effective screening could save other women from having to deal with the pain, fear and horrible side effects of treatment that come with this diagnosis. So anything that you lovely people can spare to help make this a reality would be enormously appreciated.
Eve's story
When I found out that Nanny Pam had cancer, I wanted to do something to help raise money to make her better.
I decided I should do a sponsored run (with a bit of walking too - 5k is a long way for someone who moans about taking the dogs round the village!), and that Auntie Jen and Auntie T should do it too (mum is allowed not to this year because of baby Esme, but I'll get her to do it next year - and she has done it before!). I've also been selling toys and books that I don't need any more to raise money, and 'm planning other fundraising to do over the summer.
Other people in my family have also had cancer: my great-grandparents, and my Auntie Pat. I also have to go to Sheffield hospital for regular check-ups (with the professor who has awesome socks) for a retinoblastoma that luckily got better on its own. So it's important to me that we help Cancer Research find out more about cancer, and to make better medicines for people who have it. If you can afford to sponsor me anything at all, that would be great. Thank you!
And don't forget - if you're a UK taxpayer, please remember to tick the Gift Aid box as this will increase your donation by at least 25% at no extra cost to you.We might not break any records (other than 'first people to get lost on the Race for Life', or 'longest time taken to complete 5k') but we will at least complete it. So, please - sponsor us now, and help us show cancer that hell hath no fury like a woman in pink. Or an Eve in pink, for that matter...
