About the role

Blackbaud, through its wholly owned subsidiary, Just Giving, has recently been licensed as an Approved Payment Institution by the Financial Conduct Authority of the UK. As such, we are looking to appoint a Deputy Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) who be the UK team lead for compliant on-boarding and payment services/fundraising activities of our customers. Reporting to the Director of Global Credit, you will lead Know Your Customer (KYC), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), and anti-fraud and anti-terrorist efforts compliant with the FCA, European Banking Authority, and U.S. Bank Secrecy Act regulations.

Just Giving and parent company Blackbaud serve the technical and fundraising needs of non-profits, charities, and fundraising efforts. This niche segment of the FinTech industry presents a unique and specific set of challenges. As such, you will have considerable experience in FinTech and thereby be very familiar with the KYC, AML, as well as the anti-fraud and anti-terrorist regulatory compliance required.

Ultimately, you will ensure that potentially suspicious transactions and/or activities are identified, immediately investigated, documented, and if deemed suspicious, reported to the relevant authorities. You will manage investigations, complete and monitor Suspicious Activity Reports and National Crime Agency reports to the point of closure.


  • Maintain an appropriate open relationship with the FCA and other regulators through completion and submissions of all applicable returns, including transactions reporting
  • Act as the central point of escalation and contact for all AML/financial crime matters including onboarding new and monitoring existing clients, partners, vendors including due diligence and suspicious activity reporting and detecting and deterring financial crime.
  • Actively support and advise the internal teams on the relevant Regulatory developments and requirements
  • Work with MRLO lead to develop and implement the AML compliance strategy to meet the Regulatory requirements
  • Review AML requirements and ensure implementation of AML systems and controls
  • Ensure that periodic client reviews are completed in a timely manner
  • Assess the AML risks linked to our portfolio and conduct daily transaction monitoring
  • File Suspicious Activity Reports (SAR) where the grounds for suspicion are sufficient and liaise with appropriate authority
  • Prepare annual report to Board of Directors Audit Committee, in addition to quarterly updates as requested
  • Keep up to date with regulatory changes, including EU Directives and regulations, and implement relevant changes to the compliance manuals, policies and procedures
  • Managing the compliance team to ensure that it is appropriately resourced

About you 

  • Significant experience in risk assessment and AML Compliance 
  • A proven track record in a Credit and AML advisory position
  • Strong working knowledge of world-wide e-commerce payment providers and regulations 
  • Strong academic background with certification in AML and regulated payment modalities preferred
  • Evidence of Credit and AML experience in the FinTech industry (non-profit / charitable segment understanding would be ideal) 
  • Demonstrated skills effectively communicating across all functions and levels of the organization 
  • You must be able to challenge and influence business products and processes to ensure regulatory compliance
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively influence all areas of the business within compliance
