Story
Hi everyone. Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page.
In just six months’ time, I’m going to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain and the largest freestanding mountain in the world. I’ve never done anything like this before so it is WAY out of my comfort zone!
It’s all in aid of LimbPower, a charity that helps amputees and individuals with limb impairments to reach their sporting and artistic potential, improve quality of life and aid lifelong rehabilitation.
I’ll be climbing with Dean, Paul and Chris, an amputee and trustee of LimbPower. We will be joined by a number of other amputees, many of whom will be climbing the 16,000 ft. of Africa’s highest peak with just one leg. No pressure then, Johnny…
Initially, I thought Dean was a bit mad when he asked me if I’d join him on the challenge. It’s about 8 days of climbing in freezing temperatures with risk of altitude sickness etc. It’ll also mean a couple of weeks away from my girls, which I will honestly find challenging in itself.
But I made up my mind when I read the personal story from one of our group, a former soldier who lost his leg in combat and became very depressed, turned to alcohol and ended up homeless. It hit home for me how lucky I am, and I want to do something to help.
By supporting me, you’ll help to motivate me to keep training several times a week in the gym and make it right to the top. More importantly, you’ll help to fund much needed support for people who have to navigate bravely through the significant challenges of life after amputation.
Thank you very much for reading and for your support. It means a lot.
Johnny.
