Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
From Saturday 4th July to Saturday 18th July 2009 I will be doing a solo bike ride covering at least 1800 miles of our beautiful island and keeping a photo blog along the way.
A dream of mine for many a year, & having now joined the Moto Guzzi G.B. Club I felt inspired to make that dream a reality. Travelling solo I intend to take a 2 week break from work and embark on my adventure. I'm setting up sponsorship for two charities, the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance, http://www.justgiving.com/kathiewhite & UK Spinal Research, the Moto Guzzi Ride Out Charity for this year.
For those who don't know me I'm a 40 something girlie who has always loved motorcycles. I work as a community nurse in Derbyshire, am married and have a springer spaniel and a cat. I've never been brave enough to go it alone for a significant road trip, for many this would be a easy but for me it'll be a challenge. As well as the blog I'll be writing a journal and doing some drawing along the way.
My route?
Starting from my home in Derbyshire, meandering through Cheshire to a stopover at Llandudno. Then through Snowdonia encompassing Horseshoe Pass, Dolgellau, over to the coast following it down to Cardigan Bay then inland to a stopover at Newcastle Emlyn.
On Monday I set off along coastal roads taking in St. Davids, Tenby, Saundersfoot through Swansea and Cardiff & then a stop at my brothers in Chepstow for tea before heading over the Severn Bridge into Somerset and then heading down into North Devon for a stopover at Ilfracombe.
Heading south again exploring Bude, Newquay and the beautiful Fiscal Bay to my destination in glorious Cornwall near St. Ives. A rest and pampering for 2 days & an explore of Penzance and Lands End. It's then through Marazion, Falmouth, St. Austell through to Plymouth. A look round the Hoe then on through Exeter, Sidmouth, Lyme Regis heading for a stopover in Weymouth.
A whistlestop tour through Poole, Bournemouth and Southampton then I'm heading North through Oxford for a stopover in Bedford. Next day off to Cambridge, then Kings Lynn (just to touch Norfolk) through Boston to a stopover in Skeggie! (a joke with Guzzi lovers)
Next day though Grimsby, over the Humber Bridge into Hull then up the coast road taking in Withernsea, Hornsey, Bridlington, Flamborough Head, Filey for a 3 night stopover in Scarborough. I've got to meet up with my Springer Spaniel and Husband sometime.
I'm then heading North again, following the coast through Whitby, Hartlepool, into Sunderland and carrying on through up to Alnwick, then inland slightly to a stopover in Wooler, which I understand is the gateway to the Northumberland National Park.
Next day it's an early start then further North to touch Edinburgh, then though National Parks to Carlisle, Penrith, Windermere, then a stopover at Grange over Sands.
The final jouney home pulls in Morecambe Bay, Preston then into the familiar teritiory of the Peak District back through Chapel en le Frith, Buxton, Bakewell, Matlock then Belper.....home sweet home!
