We pioneer life-saving cancer research to help us beat cancer

Story

This year we are taking part in the Pretty Muddy Run in Southsea, in memory of our good friend, Tanwen Diplock. When we met Tanwen we realised we had three things in common; Type 1 Diabetes and a love for chocolate cake and unicorns.

Tanwen, we soon learnt, was a feisty diabetes advocate and made sure that people knew we could eat whatever we liked... cake included! As a trio we soon became involved in creating a local peer-support project and gave our time to support and guide people who were struggling to live with diabetes. Tanwen showed the group that living with a chronic condition wasn't all doom and gloom and her cheerful character always lifted the spirits of others when they were feeling down.

Sadly, last year, Tanwen was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer and after her courageous battle through chemotherapy, she sadly passed away in March this year. Many people in the Diabetes Online Community have been moved by Tanwen's passing and have said they will remember her for her upbeat and fun outlook on life.

This is why we are taking part in the Pretty Muddy Run. Not only to raise money for cancer research but because we know that Tanwen will be looking down on us and laughing while we try our best to stay on two feet as we slip and slide through the mud! Please donate as much as you can, even if it's only a pound, and join us in celebrating the life of a wonderful friend, advocate and fellow unicorn fan, Tanwen.
