Story

I learned how to ride a bicycle in 2010, at 32 years of age. I also moved to England that year, trading the surf and sunshine of California for tea, chocolate, warm pubs, daffodils, baby ducks, and adventures in accents. Shortly after settling into York, I met someone who I knew would instantly become a treasured life-long friend. In getting to know Rebecca Kennedy, I was introduced to her wonderful family and close circle of friends. These are amazing people that I adore just as much as my own family and friends back home. Through the experiences I've had with them, I've expanded my world view about healthcare, living with disability, and facing adversity fearlessly.

I didn't know what 'ataxia' meant four years ago. Through awareness and good intention, today it is a word that I readily associate with hope and challenges and the inspiration to take action.

I am now 36 and not quite an avid cyclist (yet?). I can do these 62 miles, but I need your help. It would mean a lot to know that you understand what this fundraising event means to me and why I'm doing it. Please support me with your action—be it by reading about ataxia, writing words of encouragement, donating, and more (spaces still available to cycle, too). With your help, I can increase awareness about ataxia and make a meaningful contribution to groundbreaking research. Thank you.

The history of the ride and your support:
The BIG BAD BIKE RIDE started in 1991 when Graham Kennedy along with 110 volunteers found their old bikes and cycled from York to Filey.

23 years later, the BBBR is still going strong and this year I will be joining over 500 other riders as we launch our 100k ride into the Yorkshire Wolds.

Please visit www.bigbadbikeride.com for more information about the ride.

Every penny I raise will be donated to ATAXIA UK. All funds will be directed into research to try to find a cure for this genetic disorder.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
