Story
Hello possums! In August this year I will be quitting my job in Sydney and going to work as a volunteer PICU nurse on the Africa mercy!!
It is a hospital ship that docks in west Africa to perform life changing and life saving surgery on many adults and children. The ship gives many African people free access to a first class health service and can literally transform their quality of life. It is something that most 3rd world countries never have the privilege of accessing and something that my own country takes for granted every single second.
The work of the ship can also transform an entire nation through the health education that mercy ships provides to local staff.
The Africa mercy is the worlds largest charitable hospital ship and relies totally on donations to keep afloat (literally).
Volunteers are unpaid and have to pay their own crew fees to cover ship rent and food. This is to keep the surgical funds maximised, allowing more operations to be performed.
Due to this, I am trying to fundraise as much money as possible to allow me to work on the ship for 6 months. This will allow me to help as many babies and children as I can who require intensive care after their operations.
If you would like to support me financially and help bridge the gap between first and third world, I would be eternally grateful. Let's see some peoples lives changed :)
