This Saturday afternoon, 12th August, 10 year old Lucy Geyer will be chopping off her beautiful long hair which she has been growing for a long time. Please donate to support her brave gesture!!

Her friends are helping her run a stall at school and they will be selling cupcakes, cookies and other yummy treats. She's feeling really good about donating her hair. She's having a few moments of "should I or shouldn't I" but feels sad that people lose their hair to cancer so she's keen to do it. She's giving her ponytail to Variety Childrens Charity.

Lucy is hoping to raise money for ChildFund Australia, a cause her family have been fundraising together with the Rhodes family for the last few years in the City2Surf. The funds will go towards the construction of a meeting hall in a remote village in Northern Laos.

In 2015 we were so pleased to be able to witness the opening of a pre-school in the same village, built from the kind donations of friends and family. The meeting hall will be a place for village training and meetings to help the community develop further. At the moment there isn't a meeting hall in the community so village training and meetings are conducted in any available outdoor space. The hall will be used to hold meetings of the community leaders to discuss issues and brainstorm solutions for the community. It will also be used to carry out training sessions such as WASH training, teacher training, disaster risk reduction planning, youth group meetings, it will also give other groups a place to gather and meet. It is likely a children's club will start up as well. 

The cost of the meeting hall is approximately $26,900.
This fundraising effort was started in memory of the Rhodes family Gavin, his beautiful wife Lea, their daughter Jade & their son Manfred who we sadly lost to a plane crash in October 2013 in Laos, we are so proud we are able to help this village in remote Laos. Providing them with resources they have not previously had access to.
