Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

This is the final year of my walk from John o'Groats to Land's End, which my son Tim and I started in 1996. What makes the route unique is that it doesn't cross flowing water - in other words I'll have walked the entire length of the Great British Watershed, some 1800 miles. There's no record of this having been done before.

This final section is 125 miles and will start on 14th June this year. It goes from Kilkhampton, near Bude, winds its way though the length of Cornwall including Bodmin Moor, and finishes in Land's End. I'm due to arrive on 20th June 2009, accompanied by some of my relations in our "Wylies' Watershed Way" t-shirts!

UPDATE 1/7/09 - the walk was successfully completed on 20th June as planned. See the Cambridge News article on 30th June for more information. FURTHER UPDATE 30/7/09 - in addition to the £940 so far donated through this site against a target of £1000, about another £4000 has been contributed offline. Many thanks to all who have supported Romsey Mill in this way, in particular to those whom I've been unable to contact personally.

I've been raising sponsorship for Romsey Mill over the years. "The Mill" is a Cambridge-based charity founded 30 years ago by local Christian churches, which does great work with disadvantaged young people and families. At one stage they were particularly helpful to my daughter Emma when she left home as a troubled teenager. See www.romseymill.org for more details about their work.

The Mill youth workers regularly take young people off on expeditions and residentials to develop teamwork, confidence and relationship skills. Your sponsorship will go towards these events, which often make an enormous difference to the youngsters.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Romsey Mill gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me now!
