Story
8 semi-retired ravers over 40, 3 dodgy knees, 1 bad back, a few kilograms of excessive weight, 15 Welsh mountain peaks over 3,000ft, 64km in total, 4,000m of ascent, 1 of the most terrifying summit ridge walks in the UK and all done in 72 hours… what could possibly go wrong?
Who? Greg Lord, Matthew Krysko, Mark Allen, Oli Orrellls, Matt Wilden, Beau Ormrod, Alan Hall, Andy Scott, James Crossan and Tom Matthews (so far...)
What? The Welsh 3000s are the 15 mountains in Wales that have a height of 3000 feet or more. Geographically they fall within three ranges: The Snowdon Massif , The Glyderau, and The Carneddau. The total journey is 50km with nearly 4000m of ascent. On March 25th we will have a go at completing them all in 72 hours...
Friday: The Carneddau. Pen yr Ole Wen, 3208ft / Carnedd Dafydd, 3425ft / Carnedd Llewelyn, 3490ft / Yr Elen, 3156ft / Foel Grach, 3202ft / Garnedd Uchaf, 3038ft / Foel-fras, 3090ft
Saturday: The Snowdon Massif / Crib Goch, 3028ft / Garnedd Ugain, 3494ft / Snowdon, 3559ft
Sunday: The Glyderau / Elidir Fawr, 3031ft / Y Garn, 3106ft / Glyder Fawr, 3284ft / Glyder Fach, 3261ft / Tryfan, 3011ft (918 m)
Why? (Most importantly...) We are raising money for the amazing Francis House in what is their 30th year celebration. Francis House supports approximately 2,000 people at any one time with respite care, homecare, sibling support, end of life care and emotional and bereavement support.
From their site in Didsbury, Francis House is a lifeline to more than 500 families from across Greater Manchester including Stockport, Oldham, Bury, Rochdale, Manchester, Salford and Trafford. They provide high levels of clinical care to the families of children and young adults with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions.
Children, young people and family members are welcomed into a friendly, home from home environment. The support we offer includes physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual care from a dedicated multi-disciplinary care team. Telephone Support is available 24 hours a day 365 days a year.
The expert care and support they provide is very costly and their annual running costs exceed £4 million. They receive little support from the government and rely heavily on their supporters to help them to fundraise.
So there you go, whatever you can throw in would hugely appreciated.
