Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit our Just Giving appeal page for Tickle.

On a cold and rainy night early on in June, a member of the public brought sad looking lurcher to the door of our Lincoln Farm Rescue and Rehoming Centre for dogs. Staff named this dog Tickle.

On his arrival, it was clear Tickel was suffering from a very painful skin condition. After a health check from the vet, it was found that he was suffering from demodectic mange. Tickle has only 30% of his fur, and his itchy skin has made him scratch which has caused his skin to become inflamed and infected.

Statistics released by Poole Council last week showed that 256 stray dogs were picked up by the dog warden between April 2013 and April 2014. Many of these dogs are brought to Margaret Green Animal Rescue. If no owners come forward within seven days, the dogs are assessed for rehoming in the local area.

Between five and seven stray dogs arrive at Lincoln Farm every week, although the number can often be higher.

We are currently raising funds to equip our new on site stray vet clinic room.  This essential new space will enable strays like Tickle to receive a health check and important vaccinations within forty eight hours of arriving, enabling sick or injured dogs to be treated quickly.  It also means that dogs with potentially contagious conditions such as parvo virus and mange can be treated in an isolated area without the need to move them closer to the other rescue dogs at the centre.

To equip the room, we must purchase a number of new items including an orascope, which is used to look into the dog’s ears and eyes. We need £700 to fully equip the room to include an orascope which costs £575.

We need your help to equip our stray vet room and help more dogs like Tickle. Please give anything you can, no amount is too small.

If we are lucky enough to exceed the cost, all further donations will as always go directly towards the welfare of other animals that desperately need care.
