Mesothelioma is an asbestos related cancer that can grow in the lining of the lungs over a period of 30 - 40 years or more. Unfortunately, once the symptoms appear, the prognosis is very poor with most patients living less than a year. 
Mesothelioma stole my brother from me. Michael was a keen runner completing many marathons and half marathons (including the GNR) so it was a devastating blow when he was diagnosed 2 years ago. 
I always hoped Michael would live to see me complete my first GNR however it was not to be. So I am now running in his memory and to raise as much money as I can for the Mike Knighton Mesothelioma Research Fund (MKMRF) who have supported Michael and Roisin over the last 2 years.
