Story

So JBSF goes to Zimbabwe in early May for its usual 10k run and, also as usual is asking for your support to make this more than just a fun local event https://www.justgiving.com/martinwinter-Zimbabwe-2015We believe, but don't take for granted, that we can raise the £5k cost of the run in terms of T shirts, hats, prizes etc   but want to use the opportunity of  leaving as much as possible in the way of books and sports equipment with local schools as part of the visit. This is a one off opportunity for the schools concerned to receive this support  - this visit goes, whilst not very boldly, where few outsiders tread.

The lack of core facilities in the Dete schools is in diametric contrast to the dedication (an inadequate word in this context) of the teachers and the huge thirst for knowledge and improvement of students. Both can only be truly understood if seen.   In Dete only recently near to 50 per cent of students were orphans through the depredations of impoverishment and HIV but all concerned have a zest for life and cheerfulness that is humbling to witness.

In specific terms we therefore  want by way of extra funds:

·         Sterling 1000 for books for Mbanje school. This school is set in a location remote from Dete (hardly itself a principal contender for being  the on the beaten track location of the year).  It has a well that functions ‎some of the year and a courtyard surrounded by broken buildings.

·         Sterling 1000 for cricket and netball equipment  at Main Camp and Sir Roy Wellensky schools in Dete.

Your money with JBSF is guaranteed to count. We have no overheads beyond the costs of the runs, the website and minimal statutory compliance. Our continued goal is to ensure all donations go straight to  the bottom line. Without fail, your money will move the dial for Dete.

For me sadly no more marathons though. Advanced left knee articular cartilage degeneration, from an old injury, has limited all running in the last six months to a recent single slow jog up Tower 42 (8 mins 23 seconds).  Dete will be a (first) final, one performance only, running comeback that is guaranteed not to break any records.  But will be fun.

About the charity

The Foundation supports all sporting good causes. For example, it provides funds/equipment to help those injured as a result of sporting activity and to develop participation in sports by, and to further the education of, those who may otherwise be unable to participate due to social/economic reasons or a disability.
