Story
Firstly A big Thank you for sponsoring me in this ironman event and let me explain why I am doing the event.
I had entered this race in June 2013 with big plans for high finish. Unfortunately my plans all went to pot
With the passing away of my mother before Christmas last year.
She died from cruel debilitating illness called PARKINSON’S this illness reduces the victim to a shadow of their former self, it takes away the patients abilities to do anything for themselves and reduces them to a prisoner in their own bodies. Watching a beautiful mother being reduced to skeleton who is incapable to do anything for themselves is very upsetting and depressing.
When my mum died before Christmas it was a relief for all the family as her suffering had stopped and she was at peace. As time passed after mum’s death I decided that the time I spent training for triathlons was wasted time and pulled out of all my events in December (or so I thought).
As the saying goes and I believe it is true now “ time is a great healer” and I got back to Training again in March with no targets in mind but to enjoy things.
As fate would have it I received a email on the 10th April confirming my race number and start time for Ironman uk 70.30 - needless to say this come as a great surprise to me. After 2 phone calls and numerous e-mails between myself and ironman administration my Cancellation notice from December had been missed as it was the day of their Christmas party!
So this boils down to do two things to go or not to go —I’ve decided to go and to do it in the memory of my mother and to raise money for PARKINSON’S UK , in the hope the money raised will go some way to helping find a cure for this disease -
Any money collected is a step closer to fighting this illness
Again Thank you for sponsoring me
Cheers
Martyn
