Walking 100 miles in 20 days for Maya Childcare Trust
My name is Clint and I'm going to attempt to walk 100 miles in 20 days through the Suffolk countryside (and live stream it) to raise money for the Maya Childcare Trust. They help the Centro Infantil Bellota (Acorn Childcare Centre) in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, provide day care for children ages 2-6 to families in need. (I expect I shall be losing a fair bit of weight!)
You might want to ask "Why support a charity in Guatemala when there are so many good causes in the UK?". Well I've been inspired by someone very special to me and close to my heart, her name is Miss Salazar and she works in Guatemala for a foundation that improves the quality of life of people living in poverty. I've learnt from her that living in poverty in Guatemala is no picnic to say the least and in the UK we take things like education and healthcare for granted.
A few facts about the Centro Infantil Bellota:
- The centre has a capacity of 15 children, so we know our donations will make a big impact
- With many families living in poverty suffering from malnutrition, the centre provides a healthy and balanced diet for the children which is vitally important for their development
- The kids in this centre would likely be left to care for themselves while their parents go to work without this support
- The centre provides a safe and caring atmosphere and an educational environment to give the kids the best start possible
You can read more on their website : http://centrobellota.org/eng/index.php
I'm going to be live streaming all my walks to my twitch page - twitch.tv/timberanew
The first walk will happen on Sunday 19th of June
