Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

PRE-SCRIPT: following a training accident on my mountain bike when I sustained injuries to my left arm on 31January 2010, I was advised on 4 February that I could not take part in the Argentina Chile event by an orthopaedic surgeon in the Royal Victoria Hospital Belfast.  Instead I have now decided to take part in the Jordan bike ride in November 2011. Mencap is transferring my funds to enable me to take part in that challenge.

As a rehearsal, I cycled the Pilgrims route, the camino from Santander to Santiago de Compostela in Spain in May 2009. And on 4 December 2009, my gym LA Fitness Shawsbridge organised a high-energy 2-hour spin class to help fund-raising.

My final fund-raising event was a screening of "The Blues Brothers" at the 66-seat Tudor Cinema in Comber on 23 January 2010. Proceeds from the spin class and movie ticket sales have bolstered the generous donations from family and friends to reach the minimum target sum on 9 January. Then on 11 January Magherafelt District Council informed me that it is donating to the project.

I am humbled by peoples generosity.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me as I try to do something to mark my 60th birthday and retirement from full-time working. Mencap gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

This page is open for donations to Mencap for November's bike ride in Jordan. Thank you again for the wonderful support.
