Story

As part of the Duke of Edinburgh Award's 60th birthday, they have created a Diamond Challenge. As I challenge my students to do their own (usual) awards, I thought I would challenge myself on this.

Although the main purpose was to raise money for DofE I also felt it an appropriate opportunity for joint fundraising for mountain rescue. Sending my students into the countryside is a much less stressful experience when I know that should something go majorly wrong, there are wonderful teams on hand to help out. Mountain Rescue is crucial to the safe running of DofE awards.

The Lake District is my home territory and personally my most frequented area for walking. Not only is it reassuring to have the teams there for my students but also for myself!

So what is my challenge? Keeping in the theme of 60 I have decided to run 60 lots of 5km (minimum) before the end of 2016. This is a significant challenge in terms of fitness as I've never done much regular running before and in terms of time as a very very busy teacher!

Please do consider donating to either this or my other, main DofE fundraising page should you wish to sponsor me for my challenge!
