In 2008 I became an Ostomate, not how I expected to start my retirement, but I muddled on until 2010 when I was given a copy of Tidings, the Colostomy Associations Magazine and it changed my life.
People don't talk about a Colostomy, so there is very little public knowledge of what it is like to live with a stoma. The CA offer support, information and reassurance to anyone who has or is about to have a stoma, they also support families or Carers, for their need is as great as ours. 120,000 people are estimated to be an Ostomate in the UK, either having a Colostomy, Ileostomy, or Urostomy, the CA are always there to help them. there is also a 24 hour, 7 days a week free help line, so there is always someone there for you.
In 2012 I joined the CA Facebook Support Group, since then I have made many friends both online or by meeting up at events organised by the CA. The CA have helped me so much, will you now help me to say "Thank You" by sponsoring me in my swim.
I will try to swim 21 miles, the width of the English Channel when the tide is out. I will start on the1st April, All Fools day, or should that be Old Fools day in my case? and I hope to finish by the 1st July. I think that this is a realistic time line but it will also be a challenge for me, so please will you support me.
