Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page
I MADE IT. WE COMPLETED 350 MILES FROM LONDON TO PARIS. A TRULY AMAZING, HUMBLING EXPERIENCE.
THIS PAGE WILL BE OPEN FOR ANOTHER 5 WEEKS.
Having seen my father go through the stages of early dementia before his passing last November, I knew very little about this debilitating disease. Watching a strong, proud man succumb to this slow growing disease was hard for all of the family.
Through a chance presentation at work, I found out about the the Alzheimers Society's Dementia Friends programme.
This programme is the biggest ever initiative to change people’s perceptions of dementia. It aims to transform the way the nation thinks, talks and acts about the condition. Dementia touches the lives of millions of people across the UK. Dementia Friends was launched to tackle the stigma and lack of understanding that means many people with the condition experience loneliness and social exclusion.
Dementia Friends is about learning more about dementia and the small ways you can help. To find out if Dementia Friends can help you or one of your loved ones, visit their website: https://www.dementiafriends.org.uk/
Just some of the information available here helped me together a better understanding of what my father was going through. It wasn't 'just old' age'. He wasn't 'just grumpy'. He was ill.
I'm not normally one for fund raising events, but when a good friend suggested this challenge, I thought I'd give it a try. I am not sure if I'll make it. It's a long way, and there is a lot of training to do between now and then. But i know it is for something I believe in, and that will drive me on.
Whatever you can spare towards my challenge will be greatly appreciated.
