Gavin's fundraiser for Fire Fighters Charity

Gavin Darvell is raising money for Fire Fighters Charity

100k · 12 September 2026

Serving in fire and rescue can take its toll - on the body, the mind and on family life. We're here for people in all fire and rescue roles, giving the care and support they deserve, during and after service.

Story

For people that don’t know me my name is Gavin Darvell and I’m 44 years old. I’ve been working for Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue for nearly 24years now where I started my career as an On-Call Firefighter and was lucky enough to transfer over to Wholetime where I’m currently a Watch Commander at Beaconsfield and still doing my On-Call role at Aylesbury.

I’ve always enjoyed running and have been lucky enough to complete the London Marathon and last year completed Man v Coast. This was very tough and pushed me all the way to completing the 40k course. This year I wanted to put myself well out of my comfort zone as I know training will be hard and even the event but I’ve signed up for The Thames Path on the 12th September to complete the 100k course in less than 24hrs. This will start in London at Putney Bridge and finish in Henley. I have also signed up for 10k Trail run in Marlow in March and a half marathon in Marlow in November as well. I will be doing this with some of my watch.

I am raising as much money as I can for The Firefighters Charity. The service they provide for serving/retired firefighters and also their families is amazing but all comes at a cost and they rely heavily on as many donations/fundraising events as possible. I’ve set a target of £1000 to raise and I’m hoping to raise more but I know times are hard but here’s hoping. For people that would like to sponsor me I’m so very grateful and if you see me plodding around give me a beep. Also as a very big ask please share my page far and wide so we can raise as much as we can for such an amazing charity.
