Jill Hardie, Kaly Snell, Joan Flood, Aoife Keller, Andrea Cowie and Babs Eaton are joining forces to raise vital funds for Rainbow Home North East England. Rainbow Home is a small charity that supports people who have fled their countries due to persecution for being lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or other members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Rainbow Home provide a safe space with specialist knowledge of seeking asylum as an LGBTQ+ person and support people with every aspect of their lives. They help people to find their feet, to feel safe and welcome here and to help them present their case for asylum. The service is centred around their members’ needs and voices and goes beyond just helping them to present their case to the Home Office. Rainbow Home support their members to feel safe, welcomed and respected, and to give them a voice to tell their own story.

Rainbow Home do this by providing a safe and confidential space with specialist support from people who really understand the challenges of both seeking asylum and of being LGBTQ+. They also help their members with day-to-day challenges and create opportunities for socialising , connection and taking part in activities.

Rainbow Home believe that everyone has the right to be heard, and to be themselves without fear.

Rainbow Home members are faced with the double discrimination of seeking asylum/refugee and being LGBTQ+. The individuals come from places where they face stigma, discrimination, persecution if not legal consequences for being LGBTQ+. Part of the work is to break down this stigma, to support people in dealing with discrimination and assisting them in living safely and proudly as LGBTQ+. Through community and group activities Rainbow Home bring potentially very isolated people together and help them build and enjoy wider social and community links.
