Tandem Skydive · 21 September 2024

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

I am excited to share that I will be taking part in a tandem skydive on 21st September 2024 to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s society! I will be pushing myself out of my comfort zone (and a plane!) for this vital cause, and I hope to raise awareness and funds to support those living with dementia and their families.

The Alzheimer’s society is a cause very close to my heart, as I have had relatives that have been affected by dementia. My amazing mum currently works in the care sector and has cared for people and their families be affected by cognitive decline. She has seen first hand what a vital source of help and information the Alzheimer’s Society is for people living with dementia and their families.

Did you know that one in three people born in the UK will develop dementia in their lifetime? Dementia affects so many people, many of my friends and loved ones have told me of the impact it has had on theirs and their relatives’ lives. It would be amazing to raise funds to support people and their families affected by dementia, and help as many people as possible.

My aim is to raise a minimum of £480 by 13th September 2024, which is the fundraising deadline ahead of my jump a week later. I am so grateful for any and all support towards this cause and I hope that with your help I will be able to exceed my fundraising target so that we can help as many people as we can. Please consider donating to my fundraiser and sharing this with your family and friends. Thank you for your support and together we can make a difference to those living with dementia.

If you’re interested about what the Alzheimer’s Society does, please read on below:

Dementia is the biggest health and social challenge of our time. There are currently estimated to be 900,000 people in the UK with dementia. Many are undiagnosed and facing the realities of their condition alone. The Alzheimer’s Society are changing that.

What does the Alzheimer’s Society do?

Research – they back the world’s brightest minds and currently fund over 600 research projects to find the best ways to get early diagnosis, innovate care and develop targeted treatments.

Services – they make living with dementia less frightening by making sure people don’t face dementia alone. The Alzheimer’s Society provide support through a support line, online and print information, expert dementia advisors and their online community. They also give advice and practical guidance for the next steps as people living with dementia navigate the hardest times of their lives.

Influence change – they hold decision-makers to account, using evidence and working with thousands of campaigners to amplify the voices of everyone living with dementia to make it the priority it should be.

What could your donation go towards?

£6 could help fund one phone call to a Dmentia Advisor, providing help at the end of the phone.

£15 could fund the production of 12 Dementia Guides. Covering information about dementia itself, treatments, planning ahead and crucially, where someone can find support.

£20 could fund 117 visits to Talking Point, our online community where people affected by dementia can share their experiences and feel less alone.

Please consider donating to this incredible cause and sharing with your family and friends. Together we can make a difference to the lives of those living with dementia.
