Story
Wow, I think I may actually be having a midlife crisis 😋
My Mum Katy loved running! I wasn't a runner but around 12 years ago I decided to give it a go and realised I actually quite liked it although I have never ran further than 5k and I can count on one hand how often I run in a year!
My Mum was 50 when she died of ovarian cancer, so i'm doing this for her. She had been ill for a few years and given many wrong diagnosis but when doctors finally realised she had ovarian cancer, it was too late. Ovarian cancer is difficult to detect, particularly in its early stages, because its symptoms, such as persistent bloating, pelvic pain, and increased abdominal size, are often vague and overlap with symptoms of other common and less serious conditions like irritable bowel syndrome, menopause or endometriosis. There is also no reliable screening test available for ovarian cancer. As a result, many cases are diagnosed late, with around 70-80% of patients at advanced stages (III or IV) by the time they see a doctor.
I will be 50 when I run the half marathon, the day before my mums 30th anniversary so this will be a fitting tribute. I think of her every day and miss her so much.
As soon as I signed up the fear set in & I instantly thought "what have I done" but I can do this 🤞🏼 There is nothing greater to motivate me & spur me on to the finish line, knowing that I’m helping towards this charity. Help me reach my target, for Target ovarian cancer 🩷 x
