COSTA RICA COAST TO COAST TREK AND RAFT · 11 February 2025

We support thousands of people living with terminal illnesses & their families, in our three hospices, via our patient & family support services, and in the community through Myton at Home. We need to raise £12.7 million this year to provide our services free of charge – we can’t do it without you!

Story

My beautiful husband, soulmate, creative collaborator and best friend, Craig Spivey sadly left this world Thursday 8th February 2024 after a long battle with Cancer.

For the last 5 weeks of his life he was cared for by the amazing team at Myton Hospice in Warwick. I don't think I can ever repay them for the kindness, respect and love they extended to us during Craig's stay, but hopefully this fundraiser will go some way toward expressing my gratitude.

The Challenge:

Craig used to call me "lightning in a bottle" and since he has gone I am missing the anchor that keeps me grounded and feeling at home. So in true Kimberley style, I can't just sit on hands and do nothing so I'm going to channel this nervous energy into something beautiful.

This incredible challenge will see me trek and raft from the Pacific Ocean to the Caribbean Sea, crossing Costa Rica on foot and raft!

The challenge includes an exhilerating two day rafting section of the Pacuare River, taking on rapids up to grade IV. Take in views of the Caribbean lowlands with the rainforest slowly giving way to ubiquitous banana plantations.

I'll trek through coffee plantations, indigenous communites and dense rainforests. Take on some challenging ascents reaching incredible viewpoints of the pacific ocean and verdant patches of jungle, with incredible views of the rainforest, experiencing first-hand the amazing biodiversity and natural beauty of Costa Rica.

How the challenge pans out:

- Day 2: A TREK TO VILLA NUEVA (3-4 HOURS)

- Day 3: TREK VILLA NUEVA - NARANJILLO (7-8 HOURS)

- Day 4: TREK NARANJILLO - SANTA MARÍA DE DOTA (6-7 HOURS)

- Day 5: TREK BAJO PACUARE - SANTUBAL (4-5 HOURS)

- Day 6: TREK SANTUBAL - MOLLEJONES (6-7 HOURS)

- Day 7: TREK MOLLEJONES TO PUT IN LA CRUZ / RAFT PACUARE RIVER (3-4 HOURS) (2 HOURS RAFTING)

- Day 8: RAFT THE PACUARE RIVER (5-6 HOURS RAFTING)

- Day 9: BEACH TREK (2-3 HOURS)

Overall I need to get fit as hell to take this on - wish me luck!!!
