The Countess of Brecknock Hospice provides outstanding palliative and end-of-life care to people living with life-limiting illness, together with comfort and support for their loved ones and carers. All services are free, testament to our belief that dignity and comfort should be accessible to all.

Story

Simon, Leah & Martin are walking 10 miles for The Countess of Brecknock Hospice, who provides respite and palliative care to adults suffering from life-limiting illness in and around Andover, and also crucially affords comfort and support for their families, friends and carers.

They are hugely reliant on voluntary donations to maintain the exceptionally high standard of services and care they provide. Put simply, if we don't support the Hospice, it won't be there to help when it is needed.

Leah is walking in loving memory of her dad Bruce, who sadly passed in April 2026, and Martin and his husband Simon are walking in honour of Martin’s wonderful mum, Barbie, who passed in 2024. Bruce and Barbie filled their world with colour, kindness and a wonderful dose of mischief - both were so cruelly taken by cancer, and both were cared for with such compassion by the hospice during their hardest moments.

Here is just a little description of who Bruce & Barbie were and a little snippet of what they meant to us and all our family & friends.

Bruce, a beloved husband, father and granddad, had a heart as big as his collection of bright shirts. He loved classic cars, darts, martial arts and making people laugh - especially when retelling the famous “shorter‑than‑planned haircut” incident courtesy of Helen and a very uncooperative chair.

Barbie, a truly amazing and caring mum, had the sweetest nature and a gentle innocence that made everyone adore her. With her faithful toy monkey George by her side, she loved monkeys, meals out, and exploring places she’d never been.

Their warmth, humour and spirit continue to inspire us, and this page celebrates the joy they brought into our lives.
