Story

I am raising money for an amazing charity

Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice

Over 14 years of magical memories…

The dream of Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice began in 1998, with the vision to help families in this area who wanted an alternative to hospital care. Fundraising started when 11-year-old Richard and his mum wanted him to pass away at home.

In 2004, your support made our dream come true and we began to build the hospice. On 19th September 2008, we opened the doors to the first families who needed us.

Since then, you’ve helped us support hundreds of children from across South Yorkshire, North Derbyshire, North Nottinghamshire and parts of North Lincolnshire.

We’ve helped tired mums and dads get some much needed me-time; looked after brothers and sisters who are feeling angry, lonely or confused; and been there for families during the last moments of their child’s life.

Without you, our support over the years just wouldn’t have been possible: your donations have paid for every day trip, and funded every session of sensory play.

I am passionate about camping, hiking and Litterpicking. This year I am combining all 3 with the added bonus of raising money for such a worthy charity, Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.

On the 3rd of April I start fund raising.

My goals are:-

Walk 500 mile

Collect 5000kg of litter

Raise £5000

I have modified a fishing barrow, re-designed to be my litterpicking monster truck. I plan to push this around the country for 3 months wild camping and litterpicking along the way.

This wont be an easy task by any means and would be grateful for any help along the way. Not just for donations, I want to connect with as many locals as possible who can point me in the right direction of all the worst areas in the community blighted by litter.

For this reason my exact route is difficult to plan but I have selected a wide area I aim to cover.

This is the perimeter I will be walking through and all areas in-between.

The Uk has become a nation of litter. Everywhere you look you can see beer cans, energy drinks and crisp wrappers strewn along the roads, parks and verges. More and more community litterpicking groups are forming across the country to tackle the issue but I want to go the extra mile or 500 to be exact.

This is such a worthy cause, not only raising money for an amazing charity but also cleaning up the streets.

About the charity

At Bluebell Wood we provide care to children & young adults whose lives are sadly just too short; both in their own homes and our hospice in North Anston. We believe that every family deserves to make magical memories with their child, we need to raise £14,000 each day to keep our doors open.
