Story
Time: 9.30am - 12.30pm
Where: Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team, High St, Dowlais Top, Merthyr Tydfil CF48 3PW
How much: Suggested donation minimum £10
In 2024, Mountain Rescue responded to 3,842 call-outs across England and Wales, many of which were to trail runners. Medical events, changes in weather, falls, and injuries combined with remote locations and hazardous terrain mean that having first aid knowledge and the correct kit could literally save lives.
So Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team are hosting a hill safety information session - aimed at, but not exclusively for, the trail runners. It will be led by a number of Remote Rescue Medical Technicians - some of whom are also keen trail runners.
The session will include information about mountain rescue, sessions regarding life-threatening issues, when and how to call for assistance, advice, and discussions regarding appropriate kit.
There will be no fee for attending but donations are, of course, welcomed. Pay what you can but a suggested minimum donation is £10. And if you are unable to attend but would still like to donate, every penny counts.
Mountain Rescue teams are charities run by volunteers with no paid staff. There is no central funding, so donations are essential for the service to be provided.
There are also plans for an optional gentle paced 5k(ish) run following the session - so put the date in yer diary and bring yer daps.
Please email jodiekayashdown(at)gmail.com with the title 'First Aid' to book your slot!! Thanks.
