Story

Anthony Nolan’s world-leading stem cell register, groundbreaking cell and gene therapy research and expertise in stem cell transplants means we currently help four patients a day in need of a transplant, giving more people another chance to live. But we know we can, and must, do more. Driven by patients, backed by stem cell donors, powered by science, and with your support, we won’t stop until we’ve uncovered the lifesaving potential of the cells inside us all, and every patient can survive and thrive.

I am so honoured to have been given the amazing opportunity to run in the 2026 London Marathon, for a charity which is so incredibly important to me and my family, Anthony Nolan 💚

I have never been a runner so this is one seriously big challenge for me, but one I am prepared to take. If my Dad can go through everything he has been through since 2016, then I can do this for him and every other family affected by blood cancers.

In 2016, we received the devastating news that he had been diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a rare form of blood cancer that develops in bone marrow. As you can imagine our whole world came crashing down overnight, his odds at surviving were low. He then went through a series of intense treatments and spent weeks in hospital, even out of hospital the treatments were never ending and seriously debilitating to his health, both mentally and physically.

I cannot praise him enough though for how strong he was and still is, I will forever be proud of him for fighting this day after day head on. In 2017, we received the amazing news that Anthony Nolan had located a stem cell donor for him. This was the life changing moment we had all hoped for. His donor, who we have now met and keep in contact with, did the amazing deed of going through the donation process and Dad’s stem cell transplant went ahead!

Dad has since been through many more treatments and even though his Myeloma is terminal, he is still going strong today and currently on 4th line treatment. It is because of Anthony Nolan that he is here and we have life changing options available for blood cancers patients via a match on their stem cell register.

I have my Dad in my life today because of Anthony Nolan, against all odds! He was able to walk me down the aisle, the moment I had always dreamed of. He saw my brother get engaged to his amazing fiancé and soon to be daughter in law. He got to see the day his first Grandchild was born. He gets to spend many precious amazing moments with her, he is probably one of her favourite people in the world and watching them together fills my heart. Her ‘GaGa’! All of these moments and many more, we didn’t think he would be here for.

I’ve said it so many times over the years and I’ll say it again now, we owe the biggest thank you ever to Anthony Nolan 💚

It is an absolute honour to take on this challenge for you and I cannot wait to begin fundraising. Thank you for giving me this opportunity.
