Stewart & Mac's fundraiser for Alzheimer's Research UK

Turnhouse 24 · 28 December 2024
The Turnhouse 24.
Anyone who knows me or Mac will know we love a challenge!
We recently came up with the (terrible) idea of completing as many laps as possible of Flotterstone Inn to the top of Turnhouse Hill in 24 hours, hence 'The Turnhouse 24'.
Anyone who's climbed up Turnhouse will know that it's a bit of a slog..The loop itself is a 5km (3.1 mile) round trip consisting of 303m of elevation gained. The target is to achieve a minimum of 20 complete loops in the 24 hour period, taking the total distance covered to 100km (62 miles) and 6060m elevation gained. For reference Everest is 8849m high which would require 29 completed loops, this will be the stretch target.
We will of course be going for as many laps as possible and will be running / walking for the full 24 hours.
A 'base-camp' will be set up in Flotterstone Pentland Hills car park. It would be great for anyone who wants to join in for a lap to meet us here. There is a coffee shop for re-fueling!
The event will be held on Saturday 28th December with the clock starting at 07:00 and running for 24 hours through the day and night.
Anyone who does want to join us, give either of us a heads up or feel free to just turn up and jump in!
Any donations at all are welcome. However, why not give us an incentive and donate £1 for every lap we complete?
We have chosen Alzheimers Research UK as a charity close to both of our lives and no doubt many others.
Every 3 minutes dementia steals a happily ever after. Research is our only chance of changing the ending for people affected by dementia.
Alzheimer's Research UK are the leading dementia research charity. They exist for a cure.
Your donation helps scientists and researchers find new ways to diagnose dementia, develop new treatments and find a cure for dementia.
Thank you!
