Last year, I had the devasting news that I was diagnosed with Lobular Breast Cancer. After a mastectomy in Sept 22, I hope it is behind me.
Lobular is the second most common type of breast cancer (approx 15% of all breast cancers) and should be seen as a distinct disease as it behaves differently to other breast cancers. It is also the 7th most common type of cancer in women, yet currently has no specific treatment. ILC rarely forms a lump and as a result is often not detected with mammograms and ultra sound and is frequently diagnosed later.
Lobular has been under studied, under funded and needs urgent research funding and so it is time for action. I have joined an amazing group called 'Lobular Moon Shot Project' and we have a goal to raise £20M to develop specific research to inform specific treatment for lobular. The Institute of Cancer Research believe in this cause, but don't have the funding, so we need to help them to help ourselves. On 5th July, I am joining other Lobular Ladies in London to visit and formally lobby the G20 embassies. We will be walking the 10-15 miles around all of the embassies to raise the profile of Lobular and ask for hard cash! I wanted to also do my own personal bit, so if you can help with a donation I'd be very grateful. All money will go directly to the ICR for Lobular.
Without specific research we will never have a specific treatment for lobular - please donate, thank you for reading my story, Zoe
