Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
After competing in triathlon for several years, the pull of Ironman was always there but the decision factor was seeing so many friends and family battling against cancer. My pledge is to do Ironman UK to support Cancer Research UK (50% ie £1,000) and other charities and good causes (50% ie £1,000). My battle will be nothing in comparison to theirs...
So what is Ironman? It is a long-distance triathlon race consisting of a 2.4-mile (3.86 km) swim, a 112-mile (180.25 km) bicycle ride and a marathon 26.2-mile (42.2 km) run, raced in that order and without a break. Most Ironman events have a strict time limit of 17 hours to complete the race.
Where is Ironman UK? Ironman UK returns to Bolton for the sixth time in 2014, the course features breathtaking views and is spectator-friendly (if you want to come and cheer me on). The swim is in Pennington Flash, Leigh where there are numerous viewing opportunities for spectators at the start and Transition 1 (swim to bike). Cyclists will embark on a 112-mile, three-loop journey from Pennington Flash and onto the Lancashire countryside. The bike course now includes the infamous Sheep House Hill where spectators can get up close and personal with the athletes in true Tour de France style. The run begins at Transition 2 the Reebok stadium (TBC), and athletes will head into Bolton town centre, where they complete three loops of a circuit before finishing in Victoria Square in the shadow of the Albert Hall.
