Story

Our son Fin who is 10 years old (Kenzie and Tegan’s older brother) was admitted to Birmingham Children’s Hospital on the 17th June with a suspected abscess located on his brain.   Following brain biopsy surgery on 18th June, Finlay was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour.

Fin had major brain surgery on the 27th June to remove the tumour.  On 4th August he began a series of radiotherapy, chemotherapy and clinical trial treatments (treatment plan for 13.5 months) to prevent the tumour from coming back.

The Birmingham Children’s hospital is a place none of us want to go to but they truly have some of the best Doctors, Nurses and Surgeons in the world and we cannot thank them enough.  In order to try and help other children we, as a family, want to help raise as much money to not only maintain the excellent service they provide, but also to help them continue to research new treatments for the future of our children.

Cancer is the most common cause of death from disease in children and brain tumours are the most common solid tumours in this age group. Overall there has been incredible progress in treating children with cancer and now more than 70% survive. However, some tumours are still very difficult to treat and this includes many brain tumours which have a poorer outcome. Birmingham Children’s Hospital has one of the largest children’s oncology centres in the UK and has a wide range of facilities and expertise available for treating these children.

We sincerely thank you so much for your support.  You can follow Finlays journey on facebook  https://www.facebook.com/Finlaysjourney?ref=hl

Very best wishes,

The Church family   (Penny, Wayne, Finlay, Kenzie & Tegan)
