Story

Psychiatry comes from the Ancient Greek word for 'soul' - psych and 'to heal' -iatry. Psychiatric research is greatly underfunded and by nature is demanding as it is truly interdisciplinary; combining social, biological and psychological perspectives in attempting to understand the nature and treatment of mental disorders.

Mental illness is not only characterised by people who suffer from schizophrenia or other severely debilitating states but encompasses a wide range of disorders from Alzheimer's disease to Attention deficit disorder. I am sure we are all acquainted with the latter through the gruelling 3 hour lectures we have all had to endure.

Nevertheless, I do not think mental illness is a laughing matter and we should all do what is in our power to help people that are in need. This does not necessarily mean devoting our lives to medicine or participating in hundreds of hours of volunteer work but a small donation can make all the difference.

Please find a moment of your time to give as much as you can to the cause I am supporting.

Your help will be greatly appreciated and will encourage me to run that extra step on the 13th.

Thank you for your time.
