Russ Brennan a legend of Ormskirk Rugby Club and Hightown Cricket Club, more used to battling for the green and blue on the turf of Green Lane. Is currently facing a battle of a different sort.
Russ is battling T-Cell-Lymphoma (Non Hodgkins Lymphoma). To show his genuine thanks to those who have helped him Russ is raising money for the charities to help in some small way.
On the 26th of July a stunning amount of money was raised in the Clsh of the Titans Rugby Match..... But it doesn't end there!
Russ is just as highly regarded at Hightown Cricket Club where they are "Batting for Brennan" on the 25th of August starting at 1PM.
BATTING FOR BRENNAN - cricketers club together to raise funds for team mate.
Players at Hightown Cricket Club are staging a special match to raise funds for two key cancer charities, in support one of their team mates who is battling the disease.
Russ Brennan, who has served as 2nd and 3rd XI captain of the club and has been a member for over 10 years, was diagnosed with non Hodgkin Lymphoma for the second time earlier this year. His Hightown colleagues are now planning to host a team from Crosby St Mary's CC on Monday 25th August, with proceeds from the match going to the R Charity, the official charity of the Royal Liverpool Hospital, and the Anthony Nolan Trust, both of which were crucial to Russ during his treatment.
Simon Trapnell, cricket chairman at Hightown, said: "Russ is an incredibly popular and respected member of our club, who has served us both on and off the field for many years. When we heard of his plight we thought it was the least we could do to try and raise money for two charities that have been so vital to his on-going recovery.
"We hope as many members and friends of the club as possible will come down to support Russ. We have had an amazing response from the local community so far and are very grateful to our two kit sponsors, Karen Parks Sales & Lettings and Eden Play, who have ensured we can raise even more money on the day."
The match will be a 40 over per side game, starting at 1pm, played using coloured kit provided by Total Cricket Solutions. In addition there will be raffles, a series of fun challenges, food and drinks promotions, all designed to maximise the fundraising effort. The playing shirts will also be available to purchase following the match for just £20.
Anyone who is interested in buying a shirt, or any additional local businesses interested in supporting this event, are asked to contact the club via 07795 440495.
