Andrew Hall, Elliot Birkbeck & Olly Deasy are setting off on 25 July 2015 on a great adventure. At various points along the way we will have individuals joining us in our quest. Our journey takes us from Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire to the highest point on the Isle of Skye, Sgurr Alasdair. It will take in some of the UK's most stunning scenery including the Peak District, the Lake District, Loch Lomond and the beauty of Scotland's West Coast.

The 1024 km journey will include a combination of cycling, kayaking, and hill walking. Keep an eye out for updates!

This is a brilliant event run by the Brain Tumour Research Group and has been widely publicised with celebrity backing, to raise awareness and funds for brain tumour research.

As you can see, Skye and the rest of our family (well almost all-he he) has always highly approved of wearing a head garnish whenever possible so I invite you to join the nation as we all 'Wear a Hat' for brain cancer on FRIDAY 27th MARCH (even you Auntie Tess). If you do join in, please make a small donation to this Just Giving page and of course share your photos on www.facebook.com/loomtothemoon

Skye was 5 years old. In August 2013 he was diagnosed with a brain tumour which sadly has taken his life.

Skye enjoyed Looming. I am going to help him 'Loom to the moon' please help me by donating as much or as little as you can afford.

I will be updating my facebook page with photos of my loom which I will be sending to Skyes family to add to exsisting Looms so we can 'Loom to the moon'.

Three years ago, Ella started baby ballet and met a very cheeky, but funny, little boy called Skye.  A year or so later, Ella was very excited to learn that Skye was due to start the same school as her in 2013.

Unfortunately, just a few days before he was due to start school, he was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour.  He endured surgery, and gruelling chemo and radio-therapy.  Devastatingly, this treatment programme caused severe neurological side effects, and he was diagnosed as having radio-chemo neurotoxicity.  Sadly, Skye died in August 2014, as a result of this treatment.

Skye's family have been working tirelessly to raise awareness, and funding, into research for better treatments for this horrific disease in the hope that other children don't have to suffer as Skye did.  Any money you can spare by sponsoring me, will make a huge difference.

Also, once you have sponsored me, please do take the time to look at their website to learn more about where the money will go, and see what an amazing little boy Skye was.

I decided to run the Two Oceans when I realised we would be in Cape Town visiting family at the same time. Before my knees (and other vital areas of my body) give up entirely I thought I would give this 35 mile run a go and it seems the next obvious challenge after a marathon.

A great motivation that will spur me on when the pain and tiredness kick in, is that I am surrounded by beautiful  family and friends . My children are the most important and precious aspect of my life and I cannot imagine life without them. To outlive your child must be the cruellest thing imaginable and therefore the plight of my old friend and colleague, Andy Hall and his family, has very much hit a nerve. Please take the time to look at the charity they have set up for their son, Skye, who tragically died last August. http://www.blueskyethinking.org/

I dedicate this run to Andy and his family, and all those who are in a similar position.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My first challenge was on Saturday 2nd May, I abseiled down the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth. Loved it but the whole rope swinging in the wind was stomach turning. I am not Tarzan.

On Saturday 19th March, I held a joint fundraising event for Blue Skye Thinking and the Little Princess Trust and had my long locks much shorter. The aim was to raise money for BST and donate my hair to children who have lost their hair due to illness. Although getting my hair cut was the least demanding challenge in my quest to raise £1000, I think psychologically it needed the most psyching up before hand. People close to me will know that I suffer from an eating disorder and body dismorphia and my hair is hugely important in my self confidence and esteem.

If you would like to donate, you can do so here or via Just Giving text, by texting LCBS48 £2 to 70070 to donate £2 (or enter whatever amount you wish). Every little helps and it will make a huge difference to the children diagnosed with brain tumours, as well as their families. Give a child a better chance of survival and continuing with their childhood.
As always Skye, this one is for you.

I was the coach of an U16 rugby team back in 2003 and it is fair to say that fitness was an important element of training. They are going to get their own back as I try to keep up with them around the course.

On the back of my son's illness, they got together and signed up for the Reading Half Marathon to raise money for Blue Skye Thinking. I am hugely grateful for their support, and touched by the fact that so many of them are running.

Thank you for the inspiration boys! I look forward to seeing you on the day, if not before.

I am in no way a runner, in fact, I hate exercise.  I hate being sweaty.  I don't like physically pushing myself.  I hate the feeling.  I started running in October 2014 with the C25K app after being inspired to "Make the most of what I've got" by Skye Hall.  I still hate it and haven't managed more than 3km without stopping.  But if a 5 year old boy can smile, joke and stay positive while suffering some unimaginable pain and fear, I can get out there and run!

I met Skye on 27th August 2014, a year to the day on from his brain tumour diagnosis.  Skye had recently been given his terminal illness care programme and the hydrotherapy which he loved, had stopped.  Andrew and Sally, Skye's parents were trying to find a way for him to have hydrotherapy at home.  Through a friend of a friend of a friend, we found out about Skye's hot tub wish and that is how I came to meet him.

I will never forget that day for the rest of my life!

Unable to move his arms or legs, Skye was sat in the corner of his sofa watching Mr Tumble and Mr Maker in programmes I've never seen them in before.  The volume was turned down, yet Skye managed to direct me to keep pressing the button until the volume was fully up.  He told me how he was going to take the seal flips we gave him to his next swimming lesson.  Every so often he would cry out in pain because he couldn't stretch his fingers.  It was heart-breaking.  Yet he was determined to make a loom band to reach the moon to raise money for research into childhood brain tumours.

Two days later Skye passed away.

He did get to go in his hot tub.  Sally and Andrew told me how he seemed relaxed and even managed a smile.

Skye didn't die from the brain tumour.  He died from the side-effects of the intense therapy he was given.  Side-effects which do not appear to be recorded or reported.  Research that is chronically underfunded.

    This is why I'm running.

Maybe if the side-effects of all the other children had been collated.... Maybe if there was more money to research childhood brain tumours.....

Maybe if I get off my bottom and raise money to help make the maybe a reality, another family will not have to go through the heartache the Hall's have.

100% of the money raised will go towards funding a Post Graduate Phd researcher for 4 years.  Just think how many of those maybe's could become reality in 4 years.

Maybe together we could stop another mother facing Christmas without her beloved child.

I can't make this link into a hyper link, so please copy and paste it into your browser.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In 2014 I was touched by a little boy, Skye Benjamin Hall, who was diagnosed with a Brain Tumour in 2013 and sadly passed away in August 2014.  The story of his and his families strength and fortitude in their battle with this horrendous disease touched me greatly so throughout 2015 I am going to be undertaking the following of challenges.

Reading Vitality Half Marathon (22nd March - DONE!!!), The Cheltenham Challenge Marathon (21st June - DONE!!!), Race to the Stones 100km (11th July - DONE!!!), Kilimanjaro (29th July - 7th August - DONE!! Summitted Successfully!!) & 10 Peak Challenge - 56km, 24hrs, 3000m ascent (5th September), Longmynd Hike, Shropshire (3rd October) - 50miles, 24hrs, alot of bloody awful hills, stages of running, possibly the hardest one of them all without knowing what Kili will be like.

This doesn't take into account the hundreds and hundreds of training miles and spending more time with sheep/cows than humans most weekends, wearing rather questionable attire...

These are all self funded events but I'm hoping along the way to raise money for the charity that Skye and his parents set up http://www.blueskyethinking.org.  All monies raised will go direct to the charity.

Brain tumours in children are rare and unfortunately the prognosis is not very good.  Current treatment involves surgery, plus a combination of Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy, but each of these have devastating consequences in terms of side effects. Research is trying to establish new innovative way to treat childhood brain tumours but this requires funding.

Blue Skye Thinking is a charity which supports research so that all children diagnosed with brain tumours will have a better chance of survival and a better quality of life post treatment.  The charity is fully run by volunteers and all money donated goes directly to the forefront of Research and Treatment. Please visit their website and get to know Skye through their blogs and videos as I did, and whilst I did not know him personally, its clear to see what an amazing little boy he was.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I am raising money in aid of a Blue Skye Thinking. This is a charity set up for a wonderful little boy called Skye who sadly only last month lost his battle against brain & spine cancer & the resultant effects of the hard core treatment he received. Skye was only 5 & had his whole life ahead of him. At a time when he & his family should have been looking forward to him starting school & all the excitement that brings, instead they were given the devastating news of his brain tumour & saw a new chapter in all their lives opening.

Skye was brave & resilient throughout all the complex treatments & operations he undertook. He courageously faced experiences that few in adulthood let alone a child should have to deal with. His family with him by his side all the way & his dear younger brother Jesse willing Skye to recover so they could carry on playing as they always had.

Skye was full of life & loved jokes & pranks & as part of his wishes towards the end of his treatment he set himself a challenge to make the longest loom band & the Loom to the Moon campaign which you may well have heard of began. Sadly, Skye will now never know whether he was able to reach his goal, it but dear little Jesse is proudly continuing his brothers challenge in his memory. For more information on this & how to participate please visit www.loomtothemoon.co.uk

So please, if you can spare any amount no matter how great or small to help fund better treatments into this devastating illness for young children & save another family from having to face such utter despair & devastation, then please please sponsor my challenge. I know what I am doing is in absolutely no way anywhere near as tough as what Skye faced or endured, but for a non runner hopefully you will appreciate the effort I am making for this wonderful little boy, the late son of very dear friends of mine.

On Sunday 5 October a group of Abingdon School boys and parents are running the Blenheim 10k and half marathon in support of Blue Skye Thinking.

The charity is very close to all our hearts, as Skye Hall – the 5 year old son of the Abingdon Head of Sport and the boys’ inspirational hockey coach, Andrew Hall – recently died just a year after he was diagnosed with a brain tumour.  As boys and parents, we first met Skye at the age of 3, playing hockey with his dad at the side of the pitch after matches.  Over the past year Skye has inspired us all with his strength and bravery – as well as his jokes and smiles on Facebook.  Through his ‘Loom to the Moon’ challenge, he has reached thousands of people from around the world, who helped him to create the world’s longest loom band, in a bid to raise money for brain tumour research.

Blue Skye Thinking is a charity, set up by Skye and his family, which supports research so that children who are diagnosed with brain tumours will have a better chance of survival and a better quality of life post treatment.  The charity is run by volunteers and all money donated goes directly to the forefront of Research and Treatment.  For more information visit www.blueskyethinking.org
