    • Xan-Coptcoat

This August, Xan Coptcoat and Marcus Bird will be undertaking the toughest of challenges, to raise money for a wonderful cause, The Malcolm Coptcoat Memorial Trust, which is incredibly close to our hearts.

Both of us plan to (try to) survive, unaided on the deserted Indonesian island of Amparo, emulating the model of Channel 4's Bear Grylls - The Island. We will take only the most essential of tools to survive: a couple of machetes, rudimentary fishing equipment, and hopefully some rum if I get my way. We will have to find our own water sources, create our own shelter, and fish/hunt/forage for food - though we'll bring some safety rations for the first few days. There is no existing shelter or civilization on the island. We plan to film the whole adventure on GoPros so you can watch all 750 hours of uninterrupted jungle footage when we get back!

I’m sure many of you are understandably worried about how we are going to manage to survive, but we intend to go on a multitude of survival courses before we ship off, so we’ll all be Bear Grylls/Jeremy Wade/Ray Mears super-survivalists before long. Equally, there will a guide on a nearby island at all times who we can contact by satellite phone in case of emergency - as if Xan's skills weren't enough.

One of the charities for which we have chosen to raise money for is the Malcolm Coptcoat Memorial Trust which helps to further knowledge and training in keyhole surgery in urology following on from Malcolm Coptcoat's pioneering work within that field.

If you have any questions about our trip, please don't hesitate to message any one of us. Links to Maggie's Centres and the wonderful company that is making this happen are below.

Thank you in advance for your support and/or pity!

      Xan & Marcus
