Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit this page in memory of James, who sadly passed on 10th March 2017 at UCLH hospital.

James (known as Jim), was born in Cavan in Ireland on 4th January 1948 where he lived with his family including his 2 x sisters and 6 brothers.  Jim moved to Luton in England when he was 19, where he met Ann his wife. They had two children Simon and Michelle and one Granddaughter Jessica.

Jim was a plasterer by trade, he was a man who like the simple things in life.  He loved his family, his dogs Sam and Jake and enjoyed nothing more than hooking the caravan up and going away on trips over the UK taking in the beautiful countryside on long walks with Ann and the dogs.

Jim was first diagnosed with AML in 1994 and with the help
of research and the care of all the doctors, nurses and staff at UCH was successfully treated after a long hard battle and remained in remission for 22 years until March 2016.

During his treatment, Jim became friends with Marc Mansour as one of his consultants and admired Marc and his team for their work in saving lives.  Without this work Jim would not have had the extra 22 years first time round.

This charity is very close to Jim, Ann and his families hearts and they would like as much money raised as possible to ensure that other families benefit from the research so that they too, may have as much time as possible with loved ones. 100% of the money donated will go directly towards a fund (the Andrea Firebrace Foundation) that is raising money to sponsor new research into AML.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
