Story

Have you noticed how cancer always picks on the sweetest people?

I'm an eight-month old foetus temporarily called 'Boblet', and I'll be doing the Race for Life at the Eden Project in June. My Mum will have to it do with me as I haven't actually been born yet, but I'm keen! Early indications are that I love the gym because it sends me to sleep, so I might just sleep my way round the Eden Project too.

My Mum, Jemima Kiss, first did Race for Life in 2006, partly to get fit, partly to raise money for Cancer Research and partly to do something positive in memory of some very close, special people that I'll never get to meet. She raised, thank to some very generous last-minute donations, £684.62.

In 2007 my Grandma came too and together they raised £801. And In 2008, ably assisted by their gorgeous mascot Mabel, they raised £1,081.32 - almost entirely down to an amazing show of support from Twitterers. My Mum and my Grandma were two of the biggest fundraisers at the Eden Project, thanks to all of you.

This year, my Mum is absolutely determined to make it the 5km around the Eden Project for the fourth year running even with extra baggage - ME! So she'll be walking this time (or being wheelbarrowed - whatever it takes!) but still wants to bust her own fund-raising target of £1,000. If each one of her Twitter followers gave a quid, that would be £8,700. I think I heard her say that £2.82 is the minimum donation justgiving will accept but still, for less than the cost of a pint, you can do something good today to help fight a truly horrific disease.

Don't forget to tick the Gift Aid box - it won't cost you any extra, but means the government will chip in an extra 25%.

OK - the Eden Project, 7pm on Sunday 7 June 2009. Let's do this!

PS By the time I make it into the world in July, Race for Life will be done and dusted. But go on - make my Mum proud.

UPDATE! Mum had to move house, which meant she's had to switch races and do the one in the City of London on 31 May instead. Not that it makes much difference to me, of course. Grandma and that thing that barks are still going to do the Eden Project race, so we'll still have one foot in Cornwall. Go Mums!
